So they can’t machine a smooth hole properly, but somehow they can machine a threaded hole properly?

Comment on Spank’s 612 POE Prototype Hub Engages Every 0.59° by Dean https://bikerumor.com/spanks-prototype-hub-612-poes/#comment-3516866 Fri, 23 Jun 2023 23:35:11 +0000 https://bikerumor.com/?p=330945#comment-3516866 I wonder, with this and the i9 hydra, how durable the drive rings are. How long will they last before wearing down too much to work properly.
The old theory was too many teeth in the drive ring meant they were just too small to handle the job. Less durable and more chance of skipping under load.
Both of these hubs do have oversized drive rings, and pawls with multiple teeth on them, but all of the edges that make contact are miniature!

I wonder whether a pawl with 3 teeth has more, or less contact area than a traditional single tooth pawl?

My steel fork on my 80’s Bianchi failed (in the 1980s). It developed a crack right through the fork crown. I could hear creaking but assumed it was coming from the BB. One day while adjusting the front brake caliper, I saw the hairline crack right through the crown. The bike shop that sold it to me did not believe me when I told them I didn’t have an accident, even though my front wheel showed no damage — just like in this series of photos. I was only 16 years old and didn’t know better to keep the fork and get Bianchi to replace it. Years later, I learned that this can happen if the crown is overheated during brazing or if the steel is of inferior quality.
Now, I ride a Columbus Spirit custom frame with a lacquered strong carbon fork, with rim brakes. I inspect the fork often, and can check for signs of delamination, since it is not painted but just clear coated. I do understand the concerns about the reliability of carbon frames and think that they are warranted, especially in light of the trend to make lightweight frames as cheaply as possible. I’ll stick to steel or titanium.

I sincerely advise you to put it in the bin tonight and go and buy a “SAFETY” measure from a trusted website. The most stupid decision you could potentially make is saving money on safety and get a knock off helmet. Clearly there isnt much to protect anyways

One is the rider legs, connected to the satellite carrier.
The second is connected to right bevel gear = output
The third is connecter do left bevel gear.
By electronicaly controlling the speed ratio between the electric motors you change the mechanical ratio from the legs to the output.

I was not at all joking when I said that. Did you ever have to explain to a customer as to why his post seized up inside his frame, after he had never taken it our for three years.
This happened a dozen of times already to me. Sad thing is, that most customers ride their posts until something is not working anymore.”Unfortunatley”, this canbe qute sometime for our droppers. And only when it’s not working anymore they will think about giving it a sevice. But then it can be too late for the dropper, – and in the worst case also for the frame.
So yeah, taking your dropper in and out for the frame once in awhile is not a bad idea at all.

They were so comfortable, I wore them off the bike as regular walking shoes. They lasted for years. I was heartbroken when I had to let them go.

But it does mean that you can’t run smaller than a 160mm rotor, and for example, if you use Campagnolo brakes, you need to use the 140mm caliper, not the 160mm direct mount front caliper”

Can anybody put this in plain English?

i was just at REI the other day buying last-minute supplies. Father and son at the service counter tried everything possible to reduce service costs. I imagine that is what is in store for these consumers you are referring to. No one wants a $200 bill to service drop-in bearing sets.
