Porsche eBikes Go Higher End with Builds Topping $15k

Porsche clearly sees eBikes as integral to the future of transportation — and its bottom line.

After already releasing two eBikes, the famous car maker announced two new models at a price point only Porsche owners could likely afford. The eBike Cross Performance and eBike Cross Performance EXC were developed in a collaboration with e-bike specialist Rotwild.

Available in six “original Porsche vehicle colors,” the new models benefit from top-notch gear throughout the design. They fulfill a somewhat upper echelon in the Cross lineup, while the existing models (all other Crosses, and the Sport line) also received upgrades, the company said.

Porsche didn’t spare any expense when it comes to hardware for its two new eBike models. (The only difference is that the EXC offers specialty Porsche colors.) 

Both bikes come with Fox Factory suspension and the Shimano EP-801 motor, Deore 12-speed transmission, and 630Wh battery.

Shimano’s EP-801 motor offers two riding profiles. Profile 1 facilitates three support modes: Eco, Trail, and Boost. In the Fine Tune Mode of Profile 2, riders can set up to 15 support parameters.

The Auto Shift function works the derailleur independently of the rider’s input, while the Free Shift function lets the rider shift without pedaling. Brakes are Magura MT7, with four-piston forged aluminum calipers. Suspension from Fox consists of a 120mm travel 34 Float Factory fork, and Float DPS Factory shock with 100mm of travel in the rear.

The Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro Carbon wheelset is part of the most expensive line the company makes. The 780mm B220 Flatriser 35 carbon handlebar is the most expensive unit Rotwild makes. For a final touch, the carbon frame – supposedly inspired by the sloping roofline or “flyline” of the Porsche 911 and the Porsche Taycan – comes with “performance lettering” in a matching Fox Factory color scheme.

For $1,100 more than the cost of the Porsche eBike Cross Performance, the EXC version offers six color choices: including Ruby Star Neo, Ice Gray Metallic, Mamba Green Metallic, Carmine Red, Shade Green Metallic, and Shark Blue (colors that enjoy “cult status” among Porsche fans, the company said).

The new models are available now in three frame sizes, to suit riders from about 5’1″ to 6’4″.

Buy them at Porsche’s online store, as well as at selected Porsche Centers and Porsche Design Stores.

The RRP (recommended retail price) of the Porsche eBike Cross Performance is $14,250. For the Performance EXC, the damage comes out to $15,350.

That’s one beefy frame for just 100-120mm travel bike. And why the enduro wheels then? Some leightweight trail ones would be more than enough.

I had the chance to test two Porsche bikes, the one shown here and another one with the same frame and a Magura upside down fork and Di2. Both bikes were great, under 50lbs with a bigger battery, the lateral frame stiffness was scapel like as well as dialed in suspension and brakes. Rotwild may be little known here in the states but big brand over the pond.

On the whole Rotwild make beefy bikes for people to thrash about on. I expect they and Porsche know that two kinds of people will buy these. People who want a Porsche bike to pose in the garage next to their Porsche car that will get used once a year, or people who will go absolutely nuts on it.

Actually first gen cayenne’s are being sued extensively off road and out perform Jeeps and many other popular off road vehicles.

I don’t think this is so. I have a friend who has one and yes it is capable. However, because of the size these are far less capable than Jeeps. They simply can not access the more advanced trails.

I can’t imagine spending 15k on a moped that comes with ‘deore,’ anything on it. WTF is a ‘deore,’ anyway? This bike seems more Volks Wagen than Porsche. Also, why is the shock rotated so the lockout is in the most inconvenient location possible and why doesn’t it have a remote lockout? Oh, and is that is cable actuated dropper?…tell me more how Porsche ‘spared no expense,’ with their ‘top of the line,’ moped. Yeesh, I bet this thing goes well with the golf crowd.

As a Porsche enthusiast who happens to work in a shop that has seen these things, I can say I was really relieved to see these are actually very high quality bikes. Not my thing even being a brand enjoyer but at least they don’t besmirch the name!

The Porsche font for the model name is the coolest part about these bikes!
